The Function at the Junction

carolivia@carolivia.org

"The Function at the Junction" is Dr. Carolivia Herron's general title for the multimedia artistic and educational products she is developing for community and online education.

It includes products for children (The Drum of Anansi) and adults and develops educational modules interconnected with stories from the lives of the learners themselves.

For example, the college literature module on African American Literature interconnects African American literary experience with the family stories of students from all cultural and racial backgrounds.

The children's literature module "The Storytelling Lab" connects math and science projects with the creative writing of pupils.

Dr. Herron is developing these educational modules in conjunction with the Howard University School of Education, the Hollins University program in children's literature, and the nonprofit organization "Learning and Leadership with Families." "Learning and Leadership with Children" concentrates on strengthening family connections between preschoolers and parents through community activities such as museum visits and community organization.

Potomac Anacostia Ultimate Story Exchange (PAUSE)

The current focus of "The Function at the Junction" is the Potomac Anacostia Ultimate Story Exchange (PAUSE), which is a writing club for elementary schools. In this program, children from Washington, DC elementary schools work with writing mentors from Tifereth Israel Congregation and other nonprofit organizations. Currently, the schools participating in the program are Martin Luther King, Jr., Neval Thomas, Kenilworth, and Brookland.

"The Function at the Junction" is the primary activity of Carolivia Herron's company, Epicenter Literary Software. The website for the Epicenter (http://www.epiclitsoft.com) is currently under development. For more information please contact Carolivia directly at carolivia@carolivia.org
